The ChemCologne region is noted for providing a special quality of life as well as outstanding cultural highlights. In particular, the cities of Cologne, Bonn and Düsseldorf offer unique leisure amenities with their numerous museums, theatres, and sports facilities. Düsseldorf, as the capital of the federal state North Rhine-Westphalia, is the center of regional politics.
The Rhine is the distinctive feature of the ChemCologne region, being also synonymous with the Rhineland. Its varied course is linked with an interregional network of cycle paths, providing many opportunities for sightseeing and exercise. Furthermore the Rhine offers with its excursions- and water sports-opportunities, a wide range of attractive leisure activities. The large number of lakes in the ChemCologne region provide many other options for waterborne recreational activities. Another attraction is North Rhine-Westphalia’s sole national park. The “Eifel National Park†can be reached within one hour of travel time from Cologne. In the east of the ChemCologne region the “Bergische Land†is an area of leisure and cultural interest. The residents of the ChemCologne region are well known for their openness and diversity. As an example, Düsseldorf is the center of Japanese commercial enterprises in Europe. The Japanese comunity of more than 7,000 people, enriches the cultural life of the city and the region.
